Italy started in the OMNITEL U18 European Championship with a  75-56 bashing of Bulgaria in Group C. The win lifts Italy to a 1-0 record in Group C tied with Turkey for the 1st spot, while Bulgaria dropped to 0-1 to share the 3rd place with Russia. On day 2 Italy will take on Turkey while Bulgaria will match up with Russia early. Italy dominated the game from tip to buzzer, scoring easy baskets in high percentages and limiting their opponent to only 4 hits from behind the arc in the entire game.

Alessandro Gentile led Italy with 21 points, followed by Giovanni Pini with 11 points and 11 rebounds as Nunzio Sabbatino and Matteo Chillo scored 10 each.

Dimitar Dimitrov led the losing side with 16 points followed by Hristo Gospodinov with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

The Italians left no room for doubts with an 18-2 smashing start after 7 minutes. Gentile had already reached 10 points by that time, and continued to lift his team to an even bigger margin.

Dimitrov tried to create some damage around the Italian rim, but Gentile hit another one from the arc and Diego Monaldi capped the first half with a three pointer of his own to make it 39-20 for the Italian side.

To dismiss any comeback thoughts on the Bulgarian side Italy opened the 2nd half with 8 consecutive points, creating a 27 point gap that sealed the story of the game much before the final buzzer.
