Almost 10 years ago one basketball team won supporters′ love and took a special place in their hearts. CSKA′s women basketball team, led by coach Georgi Bojkov not only won the championship, but took the Cup of Bulgaria and what′s more - became a champion of the Adriatic league for women.

Some of the players, who wore CSKA′s jersey back then, still play at the Bulgarian domestic championship, others are in foreign leagues and third took a different path.

One of those girls, who were called “the red angels”, Lilyana Ilieva replaced basketball with the world of fashion.

We found Lily at sunny Malta, where the ex-basketball player combines the work at one of the best beauty salons “G Salon”, together with colleagues Sofija Georgantas and Michalis Georgantas, to the challenging role of a model at “Super Nova” agency, led by Marisa Grima.

“I keep very good memories from the year spent with CSKA. We had a great season and we won tree Cups, which I never did with other team”, says Lily Ilieva, who later left to play basketball in Italy and adds:

“It wasn′t so difficult even at the beginning in Italy, because I was well accepted by the other girls at the team of Florence Basket. I was very impressed and I will always remember the people there, the city, where I used to live and the experience I had there.”

It was an injury that put and end on Lilyana′s playing career and then it was the right time for new beginning.

“After I got injured, I decided to try with fashion business. I took the decision thanks to my parents and friends′ support. I′m still new in this business, but since I started I already met so many new people and I face different opportunities to grow as a professional. I really aim to the top in everything I do”, states the former basketball player.

Asked if there′s something to sorry for from the times as a professional player, the answer is: “I regret only for not getting to play in foreign league earlier, so I could have bigger chance of realization.”

As for Bulgarian basketball′s current situation, Lilyana Ilieva says: “In Bulgaria basketball is different. In foreign, the entire process is more intense.”

One is sure – basketball still helps and the lessons of discipline, confidence and communication are still important.
