Sharon Drucker was chosen to be the head coach of the National team of Bulgaria. This was decided at a Board Meeting where he beat by 7 votes to 1 the other candidate - Lubomir Minchev.

 

BFB and Drucker have agreed terms for the Israeli tactician to lead the Balkan nation′s team through the FIBA EuroBasket 2017 Qualifiers.

 

Drucker has significant national team experience as the head coach of the U20 Israel side from 2012 through 2014, but enjoyed the brightest moments of his career at club level.


He commenced when he was only 28-years-old at the helm of Maccabi Ra′anana and went on to Hapoel Jerusalem, which he led to a famous win over Real Madrid in the ULEB Cup (today′s Eurocup) title game in 2004.


Two years later he lifted the FIBA EuroCup Challenge trophy with Russian side Ural Great Perm and then joined Telenet Oostende, guiding them to the Belgian League crown in 2007.


He also worked at storied clubs Lietuvos Rytas in Lithuania and Aris Thessaloniki in Greece while he also was an assistant to coach Gherson at Maccabi Tel Aviv from 2008 to 2010.


Bulgaria′s opening game in FIBA EuroBasket 2017 Qualifiers Group E is at Ukraine, on 31 August. The other two teams in the group are Slovenia and Kosovo.
