CSKA was one step away of a sensational loss in the second semifinal game of the 2007 Women Playoffs against Stara Zagora in Sofia. CSKA continued with their weak play from yesterday, and was behind in the score for almost the entire game. There was a slight awakening from the Red Angels in the last 5 minutes of the game, which settled the final score – 70:66.
Stara Zagora was the more active team on the court since the first minute of the game, and after being really underestimated by their opponents from CSKA, the guests built a comfortable 6 point lead after the first two quarters – 33:39 at halftime. In the third period of play, Nikolay Borukov’s team continued to command the events on the court, and their lead was increased to 10 points – 43:53 before the decisive fourth and last quarter.
CSKA showed what they are able to do when they act as a team, and started to play some tight defense, and along with the injury of Stara Zagora’s key player Albena Bachkova, who was hit in the mouth, and forced to leave the game for some time. Georgi Bojkov took advantage of the circumstances, and his team won the last quarter 27:13, which secured them second straight win in the semifinal series.
Natalia Topalova was the best scorer for the red team tonight with her 17 points. The 185-cm tall national team player added 7 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 blocked shot for 31 minutes on the floor. Teodora Petrova scored 13 points along with 9 boards, and Tanja Cirov added 14 points off the bench. The other starting center of the Red Angels – Svetla Asenova finished with 12 points and 4 rebounds. Georgi Bojkov used all of his players except Veselka Todorova.

After the game, Georgi Bojkov declared that he expected more from his team, but it’s important that CSKA took the victory, as in his opinion the Red Angels played better in the closing minutes. Stara Zagora’s coach Nikolay Borukov expressed his dissatisfaction from the referees, and he also added that it’s a bad thing to lose a game, after you had the lead for 36 minutes.
