Israelian referee Shay Shtriks refereed today the last game of his career. He was one of the referees in the game for 5-6 place at the Eurobasket between the teams of Croatia and Germany.
50-year old Shtriks lives in Bulgaria in the last years. From 2002 he refereed games in Bulgarian champions and from time to time in Israel. He quickly became one of the top officials in Bulgaria. Lot of times he was chosen to be referee to some of the most difficult games in Bulgarian championship.
At Eurobasket Shtriks was one of the three referees in four games - Portugal - Spain, Croatia - Portugal, Germany - Slovenia and Croatia - Germany.
The game itself was won by Germany 80-71. After a strong first half the Croatians led by eight points but then in the second led by Dirk Nowitzki the Germans managed to take the win. Nowitzki was above all in that game and finished with 31 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. For the Croatians Marko Banic ended up with 16 points.
