The new coach of the Bulgarian women national team - Jose Maria Buceta - said he had accepted the job mainly because he perceives it as a challenge. The Spaniard is going to sign officially today as the new national team coach, just prior to the start of the Women Cup of Bulgaria Final Four in Burgas. Last night he was a guest at the HDI All-Star Game in Varna.

"It was quite interesting. The atmosphere was nice. A great day to enjoy basketball", said Mr. Buceta about last night's show at Varna's Culture and Sports Palace. He answered another couple of questions by Gong.bg as well:

Is this your first time in Bulgaria?
"No, certainly not. I am not that young, so I have already visited Bulgaria in the past. I've actually been here on quite a few occasions. I think the first time was when I went to Haskovo in 1977, I have actually been to Varna before too - for the 1989 Women EuroBasket. So it's definitely not my first time, but it's true I haven't been here for 10 years. I think since 1999 or something."

Ever since we learned you were going to be the coach of our women national team, we have been wondering - what made you take on the job?
"It's a big challenge for me. I think the people here, at the Bulgarian Basketball Federation, are very enthusiastic and eager to improve women basketball. I've worked for women basketball my whole life. I believe it's a great challenge to do something interesting, so exactly that challenge is the reason for me being here."
