BC Balkan Botevgrad has agreed new 2-year deal with its player Lubomir Lilov (198-F-87). Reportedly the agreement has a clause which will allow Lilov to leave after one season in case of good offer from a team abroad. Lilov was one of the team's best players last season. He helped Balkan to finish Bulgarian 2nd league on the first place without any single defeat, and they also gain promotion to NBL. Balkan's Management was not wasting time this summer, as they managed to tie the player to a new contract. Now Lilov and the rest of the team are preparing for participation in NBL next season. They are aware of the tough task of trying to avoid relegation, but everyone at the club is confident the goal can be reached. It remains to be seen whether new reinforcements will be brought in the coming weeks.
Lubomir Lilov is a product of BC Balkan youth system. In 2005 he singed for Lukoil Akademik but has appeared in only one game during that season. Following year, he started the season at Lukoil but was loaned back to Balkan for whom he played in 35 games averaging 5.4 points and 2.7 rebounds. In 2007 Balkan bought out his contract and he returned to the club where he started at. Lilov was instrumental part of the team that managed to achieve promotion after appearing in 43 games and averaging 8.1 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. Lilov was also a member of Bulgaria National Teams at U18 and U20 levels. Last season he had 12.1 ppg and 5.3 rpg in 21 games last season.
