Dramatic win for Levski

The team of Levski won a very dramatic and at the same time very important game in Varna against Cherno More Eurohold. The guests from Sofia overwhelmed by 86-85 and thus confirmed the good impression from the beginning of the season. It is a second loss in a row for the guys of Cherno More and there may be very serious penalties by the management of the club.

As expected, the game stayed tied during most of the time. None of the teams was able to take any dangerous advantage. From the jump ball until the last whistle, both teams were struggling as if they were not on the playing ground, but on the battle field. The leadership changed every second. The first quarter was won by the hosts from Cherno More Eurohold by 24-23. During the second period nothing changed and the teams went to the locker rooms for a 15-minute break with the result being equal on the score board – 43-43.

After the half time, the same plot repeated a couple of times. Both teams had their chances, but unfortunately for all the lovers of the basketball game in Varna, their favourites left the gym with heads down.

Sixteen seconds before the end of the game, the result was 86-84 in favour of Levski, after Asen Velikov was granted two free-throws and scored. Then, the player of Cherno More Eurolhold – Vladimir Marinov – also was granted two free-throws, but he missed the second one. The Lithuanian center in the lines of Varna, Augustinas Vitas grabbed the ball three seconds to go and tried to tap it in, but here the God’s hand intervened and the ball just made a turn round the ring and went out. That was the moment Levski could celebrate their deserved triumph over the players of our sea capital.

Five guys from Cherno More scored more than ten points. Simeon Tsenov finished with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Augustinas Vitas added 15 points and 7 rebounds, while his young teammate Nikolay Kolev made 14 points.

In the middle of the success for Levski were the Georgievi brothers. The captain of the team and elder brother Stefan was the one to score most – 19 points and 7 rebounds. His younger brother Zlatin finished with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists.

Thus, after round 6 of the national championship, Levski already has 4 wins and 2 losses as well as their today’s opponents from Cherno More Eurohold. In the next round Levski hosts CSKA Interlogic in Triaditsa Hall in Sofia, while the players from Varna face Dunav 2007 in Ruse.
