Lukoil Academic trio practically beat Spartak alone
Willie Deane played his best game for Lukoil
Three Lukoil Academic players practically almost defeated alone Spartak Pleven in the first semifinal game between thоse two teams. Willie Deane, Pero Antic and Nenad Canak scored 81 points compared to 89 for whole Spartak team and gave their team 1-0 lead. The rest of Lukoil players combined for 11 points to set the final score at 102-89.
Above all was the American playmaker Willie Deane who played his best game in Lukoil Academic uniform and finished with 41 points. He had 27 at the break and together with Macedonian star Pero Antic both had 49 compared to 50 for Spartak. Deane and Antic were unstoppable in the first quarter and combined for the first 28 points for their team before Tencho Banev dunked for 30-25.
The game started with little advantage for the visitors who had 5-0 lead after a minute of play and 20-13 after six. Then Lukoil made 8-0 run to take the lead for first time at 21-20 with 3.14 to go.
At the break the advantage for the hosts was ten points, 60-50.
In the second minute of the second half Sasha Topchov cut it to 60-54 and put a little pressure on the hosts. With 6.26 to go in the third quarter Lukoil Academic was leading 64-58 but in the next three minutes made a run of 13-4 as the difference went up to 77-62.
"The Students" didn't allow basket in the first 3.38 of the last quarter and scored 12 points to take a 93-72 lead with six minutes to go. From here Lukoil Academic lost a little of the focus and allowed their opponents to cut the difference to the final 13 points.
Deane added 6 assists and 4 three-pointer to his tally. Antic finished the game with 26 points and 8 rebounds. The captain Todor Stoykov didn't miss a shot (2/2) but scored 5 points and Banev played less minutes the fouls he did 4.48 to 5.
For the visitors Topchov finished with 24 points before also fouling out. The croatian Bozo Barac added 12.
