The men’s team of Rilski Sportist has qualified for the quarter-finals of the Bulgarian Cup after beating Chernomorets for a second time in the first round. The players from Samokov totally defeated the guests with 111-58. That was also the first official game for Rilski Sportist in their new hall “Arena Samokov”.

The hosts had a great shooting percentage and obviously the new conditions have a great effect on them. They made 15 of their 23 tries from the three-point line (65%) and 30 of 50 for 2 points. Seven players scored triples and best of all was Branko Mirkovic, who didn’t miss even once – 5/5 for 2 points, 4/4 for 3 points and 2/2 free throws for a total of 24 points in 19 minutes on the court.

Alexander Gruev added 19 points, 4 assists and 4 rebounds, while Stanislav Vaklinov, Lubomir Kirov and Krasimir Georgiev had 19 points each, coming from the bench.

For Chernomorets that was the last game of the season after they couldn’t qualify for the second A-1. An excellent impression for their team in this game left Mincho Aleksov, who scored 28 points and collected 10 rebounds.

In the next round Rilski Sportist will play against Levski for a place in the final tournament. To get there one of the teams has to win 2 out of 3 games and the team with a better position in the season standings (in this case Levski) will host 2 of the games. The two teams will start the series in “Triaditsa” hall in Sofia, Sunday night at 18:00.
