Number of teams for first season increased to 12, 9 of them announced today

The Board of the Balkan International Basketball League decided to increase the number of the clubs, which are going to participate in the first season of the tournament. Instead of previously announced 10 teams, it was decided that 12 teams will be accepted to the BIBL. The names of the two Greek teams, which will play at the international competition will be officially announced next week, because there’re elections for the local league in Greece. The names of 9 of the clubs are already known and there is one wild-card. Till July 5th it will be decided which club will get the last spot.

BIBL was formed from teams from 5 countries in the Balkan region – Bulgaria, F.Y.R. of Macedonia, Serbia, Greece and Romania.

Bulgaria: BC Cherno more Eurohold Varna and BC Levski Sofia

F.Y.R. of Macedonia: Strumica 2005, Feni Industries Kavadarci and KK Rabotnicki Skopie

Serbia: Mega Basket Belgrade and Swisslions-Takovo Vrsac

Romania: Dinamo Bucharest and Rapid Bucharest

Greece: 2 teams

The First Official meeting of the Board of the BALKAN INTERNATIONAL BASKETBALL LEAGUE /BIBL/ will take place in Sofia, Radisson SAS Grand Hotel Sofia from 06 June to 07 June 2008. Commissions of the BIBL will have a session at Friday too.

Mr. Nar Zanolin, FIBA Europe Secretary General and Mr. Kosta Iliev, FIBA Europe Sport Director are expected for the meeting, such as Mr. Mihail Mihov, Bulgarian Basketball Federation President, Mr. Ivan Cenov, Bulgarian Basketball Federation Secretary General, Ms. Eleonora Rangelova, Bulgarian Basketball Federation General Manager, Mr. Daniel Dimevski, F.Y.R.O.M. Basketball Federation President, Mr. Ilija Merdjanovski, F.Y.R.O.M. Basketball Federation Sport Director, Mr. Panagiotis Tsagronis, Hellenic Basketball Federation Secretary General, Mr. Andreas Papadopoulos, Hellenic Basketball Federation Technical Commission, Ms. Carmen Tocala, Romanian Basketball Federation President, Mr. Radu Draganescu, Romanian Basketball Federation Secretary General, Mr. Dragan Kapicic, Serbian Basketball Federation President and Mr. Predrag Bojic, Serbian Basketball Federation General Manager.

BIBL organizes an Official dinner at Friday evening some of the most high-standing sports people in Bulgaria like Ms. Vesela Lecheva – President of the State Agency for Youth and Sports, Ms. Stefka Kostadinova – President of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee, Mr. Ivan Evstatiev – Director of the Sports Department of the Sports Agency for Youth and Sports and Mr. Valentin Lazarov – Honoured President of the Bulgarian Referee’s Association and Ex Member of the FIBA Technical Commission. Their Excellency the Ambassadors of the countries, which are going to participate at the opening season of the League are invited to the official dinner too.

The Draw for the Opening season of the BIBL will take place at Saturday, 12.00 o’clock at Radisson SAS Grand Hotel Sofia. The clubs, that are going to participate will have an Official meeting earlier that day.
