"First and most important I want to excuse to the people who wanted me to stay, to continue with the national team and be part of bulgarian basketball, that I'll not continue."
With those words now the former coach of Bulgaria NT Pini Gershon started his explanation for the real situation regarding the future of Bulgaria Men team. Here is how the biggest specialist who ever worked in Bulgaria commented for Gong what happened between him and our basketball federation in the last weeks:
"I tried to create a unit that wasn't liked enough and I respect that. From the other side this looks like to me that they don't believe that I can evaluate what's good for the Bulgarian basketball. I believe and I hope that they can make better decision and gather better unit than the one I proposed. Unfortunately this is the reason not to continue with my work. I tried to create a good coaching team, and this means - to gather coaches, and myself to be on top of it. But may be there are better specialists whom the federations wants to work for the National team and this is something that I respect. I hope that they will do even better than what I tried to do."

After little bit more than two years as head coach of Bulgaria and participation at the European championship in Poland in 2009, the 58-year old Israelian said: I want to thank everybody that helped me in the last two years. I want to thank everybody that helped me succeed. I love the people who were around me and now I know that I have friends and real family in Bulgaria. I wish the Bulgarian basketball to improve and succeed during the year."
Gershon however did promise that he will continue to follow Bulgaria and help if he has the possibility. "If I can, I believe I'll be coming to support the National team and if somebody looks for my help in one or other way I'll try to help. I try to do the best for the time I have. Unfortunately it didn't work out. I thought that I could help more but sometimes a person has to make a decision. They made their decision and I made mine. I hope, which is more important, that Bulgarian basketball will have success. I think that the staff I proposed was good enough and could have kept me engaged with the national team" finished his statement Gershon.
