Win for the girls against Belarus

Bulgaria (U 18) achieved their first victory in the second phase of the Girls U 18 European Championship in Novi Sad. The Bulgarians, who are fighting for staying in Division A next season as well overcame Belarus 63:57.
The Bulgarian team started the game really strong, managing to build a 11-point lead after 10 minutes of play – 22:11. In the second quarter of the game there was a slight allocation in our team, as the Byelorussians melted their losing down to three points – 39:36 with 17 seconds on the clock till halftime, but the Bulgarian captain Daniela Peteva took control and scored a vital three-pointer with 1 second to go to make the difference 6 points – 42:36 at halftime. After the break at the half, the game continued to stay close, as the Bulgarians took a bigger lead few times, but the Byelorussians managed to catch up again bringing down their deficit to 2-3 points. Before the closing 10 minutes, the Bulgarian team led the score 56:48, as the last quarter was really low-scoring – 7:9 for Belarus. The game was decided by Ines Subashka who put an end to the Belorussian’s hope for winning, as she scored the last basket for 63:57.
Ventsislav Gechev used 10 of his 12 players, as only Tonka Tencheva and Veronika Ilieva didn’t get any playing time. Ines Subashka scored 17 points for the win and added 15 rebounds. Hristina Ivanova and Daniela Peteva also finished with 17 points each, but Peteva added 8 boards, 5 asssists and 2 steals to her stats. Stanislava Stankova scored 3 points, and Stefka Miteva had 9 points and 13 boards. The next game of the Bulgarian team is on July 5th, 15:30 against Germany.
