CSKA Sofia is one step closer to the finals of the 2007 Women Playoffs, as Georgi Bojkov’s girls prevailed Stara Zagora in one very interesting game for the Bulgarian standarts. The Red Angels won with 12 points difference – 95:83, but the game was hard for the holders of the Bulgarian Cup, as the experienced team of head-coach Nikolay Borukov impeded the Reds to the limit.
The game started equally, as after the first 10 minutes of play, the scoreboard showed tie in the result – 20:20. CSKA pushed harded on their opponents in the second quarter, and after 27:18, the Reds led the score 47:38 at halftime. In the third period the guests from Stara Zagora managed to cut their trailing down to only 4 points, but CSKA kept their 9-point advantage after 30 minutes. In the last period, CSKA played better, and added 3 more points to their lead, closing the game with 12 points more than Stara Zagora – 95:83.
Teodora Petrova was the best player in this game. The 180-cm tall shooting guard, whose name was settled in transfer rumors, regarding one of the best WNBA teams – the LA Sparks, destroyed the opponent team with 31 points. Teddy shot 4/9 for 2 points, 6/8 from beyond the arc and 5/7 from the free-throw line. For 37 minutes she also added 2 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal to her stats. CSKA’s captain Elena Yolovska added 15 ponts, as she was perfect too from three-point land – 3 made shots out of 3 attempts. Yolovska also had 8 boards and 4 assists. The Serbian duo Cirov-Hadzovic finished with a combined of 25 points – 15 for Tanja and 10 for Brankica.Anna Rimpova led Stara Zagora in scoring with her 25 points accompanyed with 9 rebounds. Hristina Minkova added 19 and Albena Bachkova scored 14 and dished 7 assists.
After the game Georgi Bojkov wasn’t happy from his team’s effort, especially on the defensive end: “I still haven’t seen the team’s new look without the Americans. We played really poor on defense”.
His colleague Nikolay Borukov declared, that his team is going to have problems with the recovery of the players, because they are quite elder than their opponents, but he hopes that they could take something from CSKA in Stara Zagora.
