Stavin Smith signed with Lukoil Academic

The playmaker Stavin Smith signed today a contract with Lukoil Academic. A try-out period is stated in the contract after which the management of the club will decide whether to keep the 35-year-old American until the end of the season or release him.

Stavin Smith has good experience and very precise shooting. During the last year he scored an average of 5,8 points, grabbed 2,7 rebounds and made 2,4 assists in 33 games for the Italian team Legea Skafatti. Before that the 186-setimetres-tall guard was wearing the jersey of Dynamo Moscow Region, the Israeli Ironi Naharya and the French ASVEL Villeurbanne, Nancy and Antibe.

Smith was born on January 23, 1972 in Dallas, Texas and is familiar with his nickname “headache”. In the far 1993 he was a part of the USA U20 Men’s national team and represented his country on the World Championship the same year.
It is expected that Stavin Smith will arrive on Wednesday. He was chosen to replace Antonio Burks after it became clear that Burks has problems receiving a letter of clearance from his previous club Crvena Zvezda. However, the management of Lukoil Academic are still working over solving that problem and having Burks in their lines.
