In the first half we saw lot of mistakes and very uncharacteristic bad percentage from the 3-point line. Both teams combined for 2 of 26 shooting from long distance. After the first 20 minutes Lukoil Academic led by 3 (34-31).
They expected in the second half their opponent to give up like most of the teams did in the games against the champions this season. However Levski stayed in the game until the very end and played evenly with the big favorite.
2 minutes and 42 seconds to go after successful 3-point shot by Rob Preston Levski managed to get one point lead (70-69). Yulian Radionov missed absolutely alone from the corner and in the next possession Lukoil Academic reained the lead thanks to a fast break by Willie Dean. With 9 seconds to go Pero Antic scored two free throws and Lukoil Academic was up by 3 points (77-74. After a timeout by Levski coach Lubomir Minchev was expected Zeljko Lukajic to give advice to make a foul and not give them opportunity to score and tie the score. Guess what – they let Zlatin Georgiev to make one dribble, and made a fade away three to push the game into overtime.
In the extra 5 minutes Lukoil Academic scored on two consecutive possessions behind the 3 –point line thanks to Willie Dean and Riste Stefanov but lately Radionov and Preston managed to even up the score again from the same distance. Thanks to a put back by Stanislav Slaveykov Levski was up 88-87 but that was everthing they did in this game.6 consecutive free throws by Todor Stoykov and Riste Stefanov plus a dunk in closing seconds by Pero Antic gave Lukoil Academic 13-th consecutive win in the local championship.
The players of Levski had a big chance to win this one but they couldn’t believe in themselves and had 25 turnovers, too many in order to beat team such is Lukoil Academic.Antic showed his excellent form as he scored 33 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to complete double double performance. Brazilian Murilo da Rosa added 18 points.For Levski Slaveykov scored 21 while Stefan Georgiev added 14 points.
