The president of Bulgarian Basketball Federation Mihail Mihov announced today the total bonus the players will receive for qualifying for Eurobasket 2009 in Poland. The national team coach Pini Gershon will receive 50 000 leva, while the player a total of 150 000 leva.
The total expenses of the federation in this qualifying round are 574 000 leva, from which 22 000 for the rent of Universiada Hall. All announced bonuses will be paid until the end of October. Also every team will receive 500 leva for every player who participated in the qualification.
"Those 50 000 leva I receive, I will give for the development to one or more young basketball players, for the education, food, home and all that they need so after 4-5 years they can become national team players." - said Gershon. "I hope that more people with possibilities follow me in that project. As I'm watching how many expensive cars are parked in front of the casinos I think I have to stand in front and ask the entrants to give part of the money".
This is a part of Pini's idea to select 500 kids who are showing potential and gather them to practice and study in Sofia. The president of the federation wished for the famous israelian to be general manager of the project for basketball school to be created in Bulgaria. Mihov also made a official invite to Gershon to continue his work as a national team coach to which Pini responded:
"I hope to stay as long as possible".
