Lukoil Academic started with success their participation in National Basketball League. "The Students" (unbeaten last season in Bulgarian competitions!) had their first round fixture postponed and had to wait until today for their first win. They took it in Samokov, against BIBL participant Rilski Sportist - 98-77. Lukoil Academic were quite consistent tonight, scoring 26 in the 1-st, 2-nd and then 3-rd quarter too, which gave them a comfortable lead of 19 points (78-59) after 30 minutes of play. In the last quarter they just wrapped it all up to win by 21.

American Tim Pickett hit a grand total of 5 three pointers to lead the scorers with his 20 points, while Lukoil's new center Kenny Adeleke had a double double - 19 pts and 10 rbs. But the most efficient of all was team captain Todor Stoykov, with a perfect shooting record - 4/4 for 2 pts, 2/2 for 3 and 3/3 FT - a total of 17 pts. Bulgarian national team forward Dimitar Anguelov had a good debut for the champs with 16 points, 3 rebound and 2 assists.

Dragoslav Papic was the best scorer for the hosts Rilski Sportist with 13 pts off the bench. The two most recent acquisitions of the team from Samokov - Ivan Lilov and Leven Belberov - both scored 12.
