Bulgaria beat Israel in the first friendly

Men National team of Bulgaria defeat Israel by the score 72 – 65 in their third friendly game ahead of additional qualifications for Eurobasket 2007 in Spain. Both coaches Konstantin Papazov and Zvika Sherf had a chance to try different plays in the game. Bulgarian team stayed better in defense and that was the crucial point in the last quarter when visiting team managed only 9 points. Bulgaria went on run in the last quarter and kept the difference in the score until the end. Todor Stoykov managed few important baskets when the team needed during the decisive run. Bulgarians forced Israel to make 22 turnovers.
Deyan Ivanov was the best scorer on the floor with 15 points, Stoykov added 14 while Stefan Georegiev had 12 points and 4 rebounds coming off the bench. Kaloyan Ivanov grabbed 15 rebounds, 6 of them in offense. The talented Chavdar Kostov played his first game since he came back after end of Eurobasket 2007 for Men under 20 in Slovenia and Italy. He finished with 7 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. The coach Papazov is expecting Kostov to fill up the empty spot of injured Filip Videnov.
For Israel Meir Tapiro managed 12 points and added 6 assists. The only other player in double figures was american with Israeli passport Jeron Roberts who ended with 10 points.
Both teams are playing tomorrow once again but this time in Triaditsa Hall with tip off 20.00.
