Italy captain Giacomo Galanda and Giuliano Maresca have not fully recovered from their respective injuries and will not play at the EuroBasket, which tips off on Monday.
Both players travelled to Rome and wished the team well when it departed from Fiumicino Airport for Alicante, Spain, where they will take on Slovenia, France and Poland in Group D.
Coach Carlo Recalcati still has a 13-strong squad and must make one more cut before Monday's opener against the Slovenians.

The absence of the 2.10m Galanda is a big blow for Recalcati, who had rested his veteran last summer with a view to him being fresh for the EuroBasket.

The 32-year-old center played on Italy's bronze medal winning side at EuroBasket 2003 in Sweden and also the following year at the Olympics in Athens, when the Azzurri claimed silver.
Maresca, 25, is coming off a great season at Premiata Montegranaro. The 1.92m guard will play for Benetton Treviso in 2007-08.

Andrea Bargnani, the Toronto Raptors big man, and new Golden State Warriors guard Marco Belinelli have not been fully fit this summer but are in the group.
