Crucial win for Sliven

The men’s team of Sliven took a very important win on their way to entering A-1. The guys of the head coach Sabin Marinov overwhelmed Spartak MVR with 75-66 and started their participation in the qualifying tournament in Pravtes with a victory.Dimitar Georgiev was more than excellent during the first half in which he scored 20 points. Meanwhile Sliven had full control of the situation on the court and was leading during all the time. The opponents went to the dressing rooms with the result being 42-34 in favour of Sliven as there were some moments when the difference was 17 points. Georgiev also added 3 rebounds and 3 steals in the first two quarters.After the break, due to the tireless Ivaylo Ravutsov, “The policemen” got back into the fight and were controlling the game for a while. In the middle of the third period they were leading by 45-44 and that was the first and last time they had an advantage. Sliven did not let their opponents dream a lot and did not allow them to come back into the game again until the same end of the battle. The American player in the lines of the team from “The blue stones city” – Lawrence Sharrett acted very well in the last minutes when 2 minutes to go he scored after a very important 3-point- shot attempt and right after that made a successful fast break, a result of his stealing the ball. Spartak MVR could not score even a point more and thus after the second day of the competition they are still with no win. If the players of Borislav Arsov want to have any chance to enter A-1, they must win the rest of their games. Although Georgiev made only 2 points in the second half, he remained the one who scored most for Sliven, finishing with a total of 22 points. Nikolay Dinev added 18 points and Sharrett who stayed 40 minutes on the playing ground in his debut with the jersey of Sliven, finished with 12 points.For Spartak MVR again Ivaylo Ravutsov was the best player with his 21 points. Ivan Tilev made a double-double – 11 points and 17 rebounds.
