Bulgarian Juniors (U 18) national team lost their first game from the Southeastern Games in Thessaloniki, Greece. Tonight our guys were defeated by their peers from Turkey with 86-67 (21-18, 27-13, 27-13, 13-23). The game started good for the Bulgarians, but stayed tied only in the first period. From then on the players of head coach Gunay Taner took the leadership and did not have any problems to the same end.
It should be mentioned that Yulian Aladzhov could not rely on the three of his main players – the young talents Hristo Zahariev, Lyuben Paskov and Bozhidar Avramov. Zahariev is still recovering from an injury and Paskov dislocated his shoulder at the game of his club team CSKA against Balkan on Sunday. Avramov is occupied with his Pamesa Valencia and could not join his teammates for that international competition.
For the team of Bulgaria, the one to score most was Aleksander Georgiev who finished with 21 points. Mitko Marincheshki added 15 points, while the guard Kalin Hristov made 10. For the opponents from Turkey, Melih Mahmutoglu scored 19 points, Can Mutaf – 17 and Enes Kanter – 16 points.
Bulgaria is in preliminary group A of the Southeastern Games along with Turkey, Montenegro and the outsiders Albania. Tomorrow at 17.00h our boys face Albania and the day after tomorrow they will come out versus Montenegro.
Today, in the other game, Montenegro crushed Albania with 30 points difference – 103-63.
