Fast on the heels of his release by one Euroleague team, swingman Marko Tomas has signed a one-year contract with another, Cibona, in his native Croatia, the club announced Sunday. Tomas (201, 24) averaged 5.3 points over 13 minutes per game in 17 Euroleague apperances last season for Real Madrid, where he had spent the better part of four seasons.

Tomas grew up with Cibona's cross-town rival, KK Zagreb, where he played three seasons as a pro. In the 2002-03 season, playing for Zagreb in the ULEB Cup, he posted 12.2 points and 4.8 rebounds per game as a teenager. He moved to Real Madrid in 2005, making his Euroleague debut with a 6.5-point scoring average in 15 games. The next season, he and Real Madrid won both the ULEB Cup and the Spanish League titles together. For the 2007-08 season, Tomas was loaned by Madrid to local Spanish League side Fuenlabrada, with whom he averaged 13.2 points. Last season, back with Madrid, Tomas posted his Euroleague career highs of 18 points, on two occasions, and 27 performance index rating.
