Turkey (18) hold off Bulgaria (18)

Turkey marched into the Qualifying Round following a 66-52 victory over Bulgaria in Group C action in the OMNITEL U18 European Championship at the Lietuvos Rytas Arena in Vilnius, Lithuania.
Bulgaria failed to win a game in this round, and will play in the Classification Round against Ukraine, Germany and Sweden.
Burak Yildizli was the top scorer for Turkey with 23 points in addition to 9 boards followed by Muhammed Baygul with 11 points.
Bulgaria saw 14 points by Planimir Dafinov and Pavlin Ivanov added 11.
Despite fighting for survival, Bulgaria found themsevlves behind 11-4 already after 6:30 minutes, and entered the 2nd quarter down by 5, 16-11.
Aleks Simeonov scored from the perimeter but Baygul copied him twice and added a lay up to open a 28-17 Turkish lead half way through the 2nd quarter.
Ivanov and Dafinov joined forces to cut the margin to 6 until the break, but Safak Edge and Yildizli reacted after the break to recreate a double-digit difference, 44-34.
Yildizli dominated also in the last quarter, when Turkey climbed to a 15 point lead, while Bulgaria failed to find the road to create a comeback.
