Slavia Termostren upsets Vidabasket in Sofia
Ivaylo Iliev's 23 pts didn't help

The players of Vidabasket knew their away game in Sofia wasn't going to be an easy one, despite the 4 consecutive losses Slavia had amassed. But the visitors surely didn't expect to lose by an almost 20 point margin. That was exactly what happened though - 101-82. Yet, the team from Vidin keeps second place in the Division A table, now with a 5-2 record.
The home team defied the odds and expectations from the very beginning of tonight's game and led the scores throughout. Kiril Kukov's players managed to score a team total of 15 triples on 44.1 % distance shooting. 6 of those were netted by youth national team player Yovcho Atanasov, who came off the bench to achieve a career high efficiency rating of 30 (28 pts, 7 rbs).
Jordan Yankov (with 4 more three-pointers) and Lubomir Zhechev scored 22 pts each for Slavia's success.
Nikolay Balev and Ivaylo Iliev did their best to save the day for Vidabasket but the efforts of those two were not enough. Both had 23 points and Balev also added 12 rebounds for his 5-th double double of the season.
Vidabasket weren't much worse than Slavia with their three-point shooting, hitting the target from downtown 12 times. The high number of turnovers (21) and the fact they were outrebounded 32-40 was their downfall. The visitors also missed too many free throws - 10 out of 22 attempts.
Next week coach Krasimir Genov's team will host undefeated Division A leaders Balkan Botevgrad in the most intriguing Round 8 tie. Vidabasket are still unbeaten at home and will try and keep that record.
After they have now ended the run of defeats, Slavia will try and establish a winning series next week, when they play another team from the Bulgarian capital - NSA.
