Sasa Topcov wants to play for the national team
One of the best players of Spartak Pleven – Sasa Topcov declared his desire to play for the Bulgarian National Team, informed Meridian Match. The center already has Bulgarian citizenship and for now would like to live in Bulgaria. The 27-year-old Serbian got married to the former basketball player of Cherno More Odesos Desislava Stoilkova and they have a one-year-old son.
According to Sasa, his chances to wear the jersey of our country are big, if only the future coach of the national team thinks he will need him.
“It is a matter of strong practices and permanency. I am highly ambitious to prove that I posses the needed skills to become a part of the Bulgarian national team. If I continue doing great in the championship and the head coach likes my way of acting on the court, it will be an honour for me to represent Bulgaria” – said Sasa Topcov.
Two years ago, when Darin Velikov was assistant coach of the national team, the name of Topcov was mentioned as a probable one to strengthen the lines of the team. Then, Velikov was head coach of Cherno More and after that moving to his home town Pleven, he took Topcov with him.
About the final result of the FIBA Eurocup preliminary round and the upcoming revenge game with Olimpias Patras, Topcov said that he expects a real battle in Greece and more defense from the Greek team.
“We should have won by more, here in Pleven. Now it will be much more difficult, because the hosts will depend on their fanatic fans as well.”
