The American Larry O’Bannon who has been practicing with the team of Lukoil Academic for the last few days, signed today a on-month-contract. O’Bannon was born on 15.08.1983 in Louisville, Kentucky and is playing on the position of shooting guard and forward. The 191-sentimetres-tall player is a cousin of the injured Donta Smith and he will try to help “the students” in the absence of his relative.
O’Bannon will play with number 22 in the remaining four games of the ULEB Cup regular season (This is the same number which Donta Smith carried last year in his first appearance on the court with the jersey of Lukoil Academic). The new addition cannot participate in the Bulgarian National Championship, because there are three players with nationality across Europe already registered – Willie Deane, Donta Smith and the Brazilian Murillo Da Rosa.
Larry O’Bannon used to be a top scorer during his last year in Louisville College. There he competed three years along with the Bulgarian Simeon Naydenov as well as the familiar Carlos Hurt, who wore the jersey of the “students” for a while two years ago. In 2005, Larry signed with the Serbian grand Red Star, where he managed to score an average of 12,2 points, 2,5 rebounds and 0,9 assists in 13 games of the ULEB Cup tournament. This same season, it was the team of Red Star Belgrade that eliminated Lukoil Academic in the 1/8-finals of ULEB. Then O’ Bannon finished with 18 points in both games (10 + 8).
The second season of O’ Bannon in Europe started in the Italian Snaidero Udine, another club participating in the ULEB Cup. In 13 games, the American succeeded signing an average of 11,5 points, 2,8 rebounds and 1,1 assists. He finished the season in Eldo Napoli. In 2006 wearing the jersey of Red Star Belgrade, Larry O’ Bannon triumphed with the Cup of Serbia.
