Spartak took step ahead of CSKA
Hrisimir Dimitrov (Spartak Pleven)
Spartak Pleven won a hard fought victory against CSKA 80-78 in the derby in 15-th round of Men A-1. This game was tipped to be the match of the round by the specialists and it proved to be such.
Great game had Hrisimir Dimitrov who finished with 31 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. In the last quarter he managed to keep his team's lead almost by himself.
For the visitors Mike Henderson had his best game so far as he scored 30 points. Hristo Nikolov added 25 but the other American Lavell Payne was the big dissapointment as he managed just 2 points in 31 minutes.
CSKA took a 5-2 lead in the beginning but after good plays by Sasha Topchov and Iliya Stankov the hosts took a 8-7 lead and 18-16 after the first quarter. After very good team defense and nice counter attacks they held 12-point lead at the break, 45-33.
In the second half the visitors managed to cut their deficit and in the end it came down to very interesting finish to the game.
The hosts led by 4 points in the last minute but after a three pointer by Henderson the lead came down to just a single point. Dimitrov scored two free throws with 9 seconds to go, to make it 80-77. Then Henderson was fouled and after scoring the first free throw missed the second and then the rebounds was grabbed by Dimitar Marincheshki but one of his teammates pushem him off the floor and that gave the ball back to Spartak. They held the ball until the end of the game and won it.
