Levski rout CSKA
After losing two consecutive games to CSKA, this time Levski was relentless and won the “eternal” derby with 109-67. Disappointingly for the spectators in “Triaditsa” hall, excluding Levski’s fans, today’s game wasn’t a derby at all. The absence of CSKA’s starting playmaker Mike Henderson was obvious. The team’s plays were disorganised and Levski took full advantage of that.
The hosts made an excellent start with a 9-2 run. CSKA tried to change the course of the game but there wasn’t anything they could do and after 10 minutes of play the score was 25-14 for Levski.
The second quarter started the same way and with interesting offensive combinations, good three-point shooting and oraganised defense Levski extended their lead to 20 points at the half (50-30).
During the break the praiseworthy initiative by Levski’s executives to entertain the audience with a game between the children playing for the club was continued. The little players showed their skills and played with a lot of enthusiasm, making everyone in the hall happy.
After the start of the third quarter nothing changed and Levski was still the dominant team on the court. CSKA, on the other hand, seemed as if they have given up the game and made lots of childish mistakes. That way Levski led with the impressive 32-point advantage with ten minutes left in the game (83-51).
In the last quarter Lubomir Minchev put mostly his younger players on the court but they played exceptionally well and extended their team’s lead to reach the incredible 42-point advantage at the end of the game, pleasing all of their fans.
With this game Levski secured its second place after the regular season, while CSKA are going to be fourth or fifth, eventually facing Lukoil Academic in the semi-finals.
Five of Levski’s players finished the game with double figures. Stanislav Slaveykov was the best scorer for his team with 16 points and Rob Preston made a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
For CSKA, Krum Doychinov scored 22 points, which was more than anyone who played in this game.
