The Balkan League has its budget guaranteed for at least 3 years

The inauguration of the newly founded Balkan Internationall Basketball League (BIBL) is set for the 7-th of October with the game of Rilski Sportist of Samokov vs Mega Hypo Leasing of Belgrade. It will be preceded by a friendly game of the junior teams of Bulgarian BIBL participants Rilski Sportist and Levski Sofia. The executive director of BIBL Robert Gergov and sports director Shay Shtriks held a pressconference to introduce the new general sponsor of the league (for the naxt 3 years) - Eurohold Bulgaria JSC.
The competition has a total of 10 teams, divided in two preliminary groups of 5 each.
"We found not only a sponsor but a true partner in what we are doing. I'm very happy I am going to work together with Asen Hristov, who loves basketball and sport as much as I do. Basketball in the Balkan region has a great future and the League has its place in that with a partner like this. We will give the opportunity for young teams and referees to gain experience and improve. I believe in 3 years time we will have at least 16 teams in the League. I think we must capitalize on the basketball buzz we are experiencing on the Balkans at the moment. I want to thank everyone that has supported me in this crazy undertaking", said BIBL sports director Shay Shtriks.
"We work together with FIBA Europe and we have their backing. We co-operate with all national federations that have teams participating in the League. That is the key difference compared to the Adriatic League, who co-operate with ULEB. We were offered to go the same way, but we rejected that. As to how much that decision is costing us - it is only for us and our partners to know. We take care of all the traveling and accommodation expences of the teams, as well as the referee tolls", added also Mr. Shtriks.
