Balkan Botevgrad suffered defeat in a thriller friendly game against Cypriot team Apollon Limassol 82-83. It was the last check for Balkan before the beginning of the season.
Bulgarian team had impressive start. It ended first stanza having big 28-17. Apollon recovered from the starting shock playing little bit better following ten minutes. However, it was enough only for minus seven at the half time, 52-45. Totally different picture was seen on the court after the breather. Apollon was the team which dominated as thanks to lucky long range stroke at the end of third frame, Apollon tied the score on 66-66.
Balkan had the most troubles in the paint. However, it somehow managed to stay in until the very end. With three minutes remaining Apollon had plus 4. After that moment Tsenko Nako (185-G-87) drained a triple followed by a basket from Martin Horozov (200-F/C-86) meaning that Balkan made a turn 82-81. In the last five seconds Balkan commited a turnover, what Apollon exploited to made a quick basket for the final score 82-83.
Interesting is that Balkan played this game without three Serbians Marko Popadic (190-G-89), Nebojsa Ristic (194-G/F-77) and Aleksandar Gilic, which returned to their country in order to complete the necessary papers. They are expected to come back in Botevgrad in the next few days.
