Levski took 1-0 lead for bronze medals

The team of Levski took a 1-0 lead in the battle for the bronze medals of NBL after 99-93 win over Rilski Sportist in Sofia. "The Blues" won for first time after three straight losses against Euroins Cherno More at the 1/2 final. Rilski Sportist on the other side suffered its 4th straight loss in the playoffs and will now seek a success on Friday in order to take the series into a decise third game in Samokov.
The players of Levski controlled the game for most part of it but the visitors never gave up even when they were down 14 points at the end of the first half, 56-42.
After a 14-2 run at the start of the third quarter Rilski Sportist cut the deficit to only 2 points but the hosts once again pulled away to take a 9-point lead heading into the last quarter. It was no different than the others. The two teams continued to have good and bad moments.
With 1.30 to play Rilski cut it to 91-96 and twice Branko Mirkovic and Leven Belberov missed three-pointers and the chance to cut the deficit even more. Then Charlie Jones scored a three-pointer for 99-91 and was fouled. Even though he missed the free throw until the end the visitors scored only two points and fixed the score at 99-93.
Above all in the game was Marcus Hall who finished with 33 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals. He was once again the leading man for his team and the one who caused the visitors the most trouble.
Very good game for Levski had Boyko Mladenov who started the game in the absence of injured Stefan Georgiev and played 26 minutes. He finished with 12 points and 7 rebounds before being disqualified.
For Rilski Sportist the top player was Dragoslav Papic with 30 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists. Branko Mirkovic reminded of himself in the last quarter and ended with 20 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals.
Despite the fact that Stefan Georgiev didn't play Levski had the advantage in the rebounding 32-30 and caused more turnovers 21-15. The big difference were the points in the paint where Levski had 58 compared to Rilski's 32.
The second game will be on Friday at 16.00 in Universiada Hall.
