Two new Americans in the national team

Two Americans who are expecting Bulgarian passports in the next days will join the preparation of the National Men team today. The procedure of naturalization of Andre Owens and Earl Rowland started in the beginning of the year and the two will take part of the preparation for Eurobasket 2009 after a decision by head coach Pini Gershon.
Bulgaria has the possibility to use only one naturalized player in the championship. Gershon will have to choose between those two and Ibrahim Jaaber who played last summer. Jaaber is expected to come on August 1st, after missing the summer league in Las Vegas due to injury.
Andre Owens was born on October 31st 1980 in Indianapolis. He arrives directly from USA where he played for Detroit Pistons in the Summer League. He has played in University of Indiana and University of Houston. Without being drafted in 2005 he signed for Utah Jazz. Then he spent seasons in Golden State Warriors and Indiana Pacers. Last year he came to Europe and played for Red Star Belgrade where Owens averaged 11.0 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists in the Adriatic league.
Earl Jerrod Rowland was born on May 18th 1985. He has played in Australia for Sidney Kings and Townsville Crocodiles before moving to Europe. Rowland signed for Barons in Latvia, and then moved to Artland Dragons in Germany. Last season he played for Telecom Bonn and averaged 13.56 points, 3.36 rebounds, 3.44 assists and 1.29 steals per game.
